Celia Esther de los Desamparados Sánchez Manduley, known as Celia Sánchez Manduley, was a guerrilla fighter of the Cuban Revolution and one of Fidel Castro's closest collaborators from 1957 until her death.  She was born in Media Luna, Oriente, on May 9, 1920. She was the daughter of Manuel Sánchez Silveira and Acacia Manduley Alsina.

 On October 16 of that year she was registered in the Civil Registry of the Municipal Court of Vicana under the name of Celia Esther de los Desamparados, the same ones with which she would be baptized on July 22, 1922 in the parish of the Immaculate Conception from Manzanillo. 

Candelaria Figueredo.  A young woman from Bayamo who, on October 20, 1868, when the enemy garrison capitulated, dressed as an Amazon, with a Phrygian cap, and carried the flag through her hometown, being victorious as she passed.  She has since gained the beautiful title of "La Abanderada".

 She was born on February 2, 1852, the daughter of the wealthy lawyer and landowner Pedro Figueredo Cisneros (Perucho) and Doña Isabel Antonia Vázquez Moreno.  Her childhood was calm and happy in her hometown, as her father was not in favor of sending her daughters to study abroad.  She grew up hearing expressions of hatred for foreign oppression, because Perucho could never bear the yoke of slavery even in the midst of comfort.

Bartolomé Masó Márquez.  Born on a farm near Yara, Manzanillo, Oriente, on December 21, 1830. Major General of the Liberation Army.  One of the participants in the preparatory meeting for the war at the Ingenio Rosario.  Second chief of the liberating forces.

 In 1867 he joined the executive commission of the Revolutionary Junta of Manzanillo.

 Carlos Manuel de Céspedes was a Cuban independence leader, who started the Ten Years' War by taking up arms against the Spanish government on October 10, 1868, at his La Demajagua Sugar Mill.

 He was born in Bayamo on Sunday, April 18, 1819. His childhood was spent in the countryside, on the haciendas owned by his wealthy family: Limones Abajo, Los Mangos, San Rafael de la Junta and San Joaquín, the first leased from the State dedicated to the cattle ranch.
