Manzanillo, known as the "Pearl of Guacanayabo", was founded in the 18th century, specifically in 1874 and is considered, in addition to being one of the most important and populated cities in the province, the main port of Granma and the second in Eastern Cuba, because the Gulf of Guacanayabo bathes its coast.

Due to its special weather conditions, it is one of the warmest areas in the country;  not even the fact of being a coastal city alleviates the strong heat.

Manzanillo arouses interest due to the variety of its architecture, quite neglected, in which you can find oriental motifs of neo-Moorish court, beach-level cabins or an Andalusian air in its constructions.  Among its most emblematic buildings, it is worth highlighting the City Bank of New York in Manzanillo, dating from 1913.

Manzanillo is also well known for its displays of patriotic fervor, such as supplying a significant amount of weapons and personnel to support the revolution led by Fidel, perhaps because its desire for autonomy was cut short by the Americans only 30 years after have achieved independence from Spain.

In Manzanillo the son was born, a circumstance that makes the city very special, since it is the best-known international dance in all of Cuba.  If you decide to visit Manzanillo and lose yourself in its Caribbean night, you will hear this dark and fascinating music in every corner of the city.

Nor will you be able to avoid the sound of the street organs, which have been preserved in the town since the beginning of the 20th century.

Manzanillo has a musical group, the Original de Manzanillo Orchestra, which plays traditional music and has transferred its Cuban sound to countries on several continents.
